What Are Inlays and Onlays?
Inlays and onlays are types of prosthodontics, or restorative dental procedures. Dr. Keyser uses inlays and onlays to restore damaged or decayed molars. They are primarily used to fix teeth in cases where the amount of tooth missing is too large for a filling, but too small for a crown. Inlays and onlays are utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by trauma or decay. These are ideal alternatives to crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation. Both inlays and onlays are fabricated in the Keyser Dentistry lab in our Durham office after a consultation with Dr. Keyser.
