Dr. Leigh K Miller, PT, DPT, Cert. DN, Cert. TPI
TMJD Physical Therapy Specialist
Dr. Leigh Miller was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She double majored in Chemistry and Biology at Meredith College. She then went on to attend Shenandoah University where she got her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2017. Dr. Miller spent her first few years out of school working in Orthopedic Physical Therapy where she obtained her certificates in intra-muscular dry needling for upper and lower extremity related impairments. Dr. Miller has almost 6 years of experience working with orthopedic related injuries including post-operative patients, chronic pain, sports related injuries, chronic headaches, TMJ disorders, and running related injuries. Dr. Miller has developed a particular interest in TMJ disorders and how they relate to improper cervical and upper extremity mechanics along with precipitation of chronic pain including headaches. Initially, Dr. Miller had a goal of attending dental school, as her father and brother (Dr. Fred Keyser and Dr. Robert Keyser) did. However, after getting into a snow skiing accident, resulting in a concussion and chronic back pain, her interests began to shift towards physical therapy. Dr. Miller became fascinated with how the impairments she obtained impacted her recreational hobbies including instructing cardio kickboxing and indoor cycling for 10 years. She then began to pursue a career that was focused on total body health with a focus on an area that is so near and dear to her heart, the TMJ (as she is also someone who suffers from TMJD). Dr. Miller currently lives with her husband (and high-school sweetheart) Chris, 2 daughters (Virginia Morgan & Charlotte), and 2 dogs (Keyser – Blood Hound & Phoebe – German Shephard).
Robert Keyser; Prosthodontist (DDS, MS)
Growing up as the son of a dentist I always thought I wanted to work in health care but actually thought it would be medicine instead of dentistry. I wanted to be a heart surgeon after my grandfather had many heart complications needing extensive surgeries. As I continued through schooling, I was able to shadow many dentists and dental specialists which made me start to really like dentistry and wanting to pursue that. Furthermore, I have always been a fan of Legos; working with my hands and problem solving have always intrigued me. This is one reason I majored in mathematics in undergraduate. I believe dentistry has this same effect- ‘To begin with the end in mind is the foundation of accomplishment.’
I followed my dad and studied as an undergraduate at NC State (although I majored in math, not engineering). Then I went on to UNC-Chapel Hill for my DDS and further specialized as a resident in Prosthodontics. My dad’s interest and passion for restorative cases and prosthodontics focus is what helped guide me towards continuing my course of study; so I could further delve into implants, dentures, and major restorative cases that transform patients’ smiles and lives.
